"Surface Physics and Nanophysics"

In their insatiable striving for minituarization of everything and for creation of materials with unprecedented qualities, technologists are now mastering the nanometer scale of sizes and distances. This is a low-dimensional (confined) world with its peculiar regularities which are substantially different from what is usual in three dimensions. The lecture will give an overview of studies carried out in the field in Ukraine. A stress will be laid on works dedicated to submonolayer films (their structure and phase transitions in them, their effect on the physico-chemical properties of surfaces) and to nanosized particles (behaviour of electrons in them, electron and light emission from nanoparticles).

Coffee will be available in PHY 145 prior to the Colloquium

A Wine & Cheese Reception will be held after the Colloquium in PHY 153 (Study Hall)
