A Celebration of 100 Years of Quantum Mechanics
Tuesday, November 21, 2000
4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Phys 145
University of Waterloo Campus
We are planning an event that we hope will attract 3rd and 4th year students from Physics and Chemistry. It's an opportunity to recognize the centenary of Planck's first paper on quantum mechanics and to inform prospective students about graduate work in physics and chemistry in <G|W>.
We'll be having 4 oral presentations of 25 minutes each with a refreshment break in the middle. At 6:30 we'll adjourn into a poster session, which will contain ample food to get us all through the dinner hour. During this time students will have the opportunity to chat with faculty about their research.
Speakers:
"A Century of Spectroscopy in Astronomy
and Atmospheric Science"
Peter
Bernath
Professor, Physics Department, University of
Waterloo
"Quantum Phenomena in Nanostructured Materials"
Dan Thomas
Professor, Chemistry Department, University of
Guelph
"What Polymer Physics and Quantum Mechanics
Have In Common"
James Forrest
Assistant Professor, Physics Department, University
of Waterloo
