Advantages of Joining PSI Group

Graduate students in my group can enroll either in the Guelph-Waterloo Physics Institute (more physics) or the Biophysics Interdepartmental Group (more bio). I guarantee a minimum salary of $20,000/year, with bonuses for A-level students and scholarship holders, the possibility of in-course scholarships, and a guaranteed teaching assistantship. I feel that it is very important for graduate students to have the opportunity to present their research results at scientific meetings. In the last five years, my graduate students have given 27 presentations at international scientific meetings such as the March meeting of the American Physical Society, the Fall meeting of the Materials Research Society and the Canadian Association of Physicists Annual Congress. This experience develops very important communication skills, provides exposure to and interaction with leading international scientists, and makes it easier to find a job after you have finished your degree. Graduates from this laboratory have been very successful, obtaining faculty positions (Waterloo, McMaster) and jobs in the high-tech sector (JDS Uniphase, Newbridge Networks).
