Abstract

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released their most recent report on October 8th, 2018. This report cites over 6000 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and was written by a massive team of experts consisting of 74 Coordinating Lead Authors and Lead Authors, 133 Contributing Authors, and 17 Review Editors. We will investigate the report including the climate-related risks and some suggestions for mitigation to limit warming to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels. We will also briefly discuss ways in which you can reduce your personal footprint, the denial which is still prevalent, and some of the strategies that have proved effective in communicating with others about climate change. Hopefully, you will be better equipped for your next conversation with that friend or family member (or if you are really brave, stranger) who fails to appreciate the seriousness of the situation.

The talk will be held again in SC 1511 at 1:30pm. Snacks and Coffee beginning at 1:15.
