This talk will give a brief overview of synchrotron facilities and how synchrotron radiation is produced and utilized for beamline experiments. It will also provide an introduction to x-ray absorption for fine structure determination, the atomic fingerprint. The experimental technique of XAS has applications to a wide variety of fields within science and beyond that it can make an impact in which will be highlighted in this talk.
