• Sangeet-Pal Pannu - NSERC CGSM
• Devin Hymers - NSERC PGSD

OGS

• Sylvia, Luyben – QEII
• Nicholas VanHeijst - OGS
• Raoul Vaz - OGS

Andrew MacLean successfully defended his PhD thesis: Spectroscopy of 188Hg Following the β+/EC Decay of 188,188mTl on Friday, August 20, 2021.

Rajan Anderson-Dornan successfully defended his MSc thesis: Nucleonic Interaction and Neutrino Spectra in Neutron Star Merger Events on Monday, August 16, 2021.

Using computer simulations to explore neutron stars is the goal of a $181,830 project headed by Dr. Alex Gezerlis, Department of Physics. Along with physics professors Drs. Liliana Caballero and Daniel Siegel, he will use advanced research computing equipment to analyze data from gravitational wave detectors on Earth and in space.

Congratulations Georgios Palkanoglou on your second place prize in Theoretical Physics Oral Presentation at CAP.

We would like to acknowledge Dr. Paul Garrett’s commitment to the department in his role as chair over the past six years. Paul’s term will end July 31, 2021.

Thank you Paul!

Dr. Stefan Kycia will begin his appointment as Interim Chair, effective August 1, 2021 to July 31, 2022.

Congratulations Stefan!

The Department of Physics at the University of Guelph has a national reputation of excellence in teaching, in part due to our strong commitment to advancing our understanding of the craft through physics education research. Faculty members Drs. Martin Williams, Joanne O’Meara, and Mike Massa lead the work in this area, focusing on improving the quality of teaching physics and science at not only the university level, but at the elementary and high school levels as well.
