Lukasz P. Gramera successfully defended his MSc Thesis on May 5, 2014: Design, Implementation and Optimization of an X-Ray Image Plate Based X-Ray Powder Diffractometer for Light and Pressure Sensitive, Low Temperature Structure Measurements.
Ian successfully defended his Ph.D. Thesis on May 1, 2014: Self-Consistent Field Theory for Smectic Ordering of Semiflexible Homo-polymers.
Professor John Dutcher received $125,000 to take his PHYTOSPHERIX™ polysaccharide particles to market from the Gryphon's LAAIR (Leading to Accelerated Adoption of Innovative Research) program. The program provides "targeted support for transformative research, development & commercialization projects", specifically for Ontario's agri-food and rural sectors. As part of the program faculty from across campus "pitched" ideas for commercializing their projects to a panel of industry stakeholders.
Russell successfully defended his Ph.D. Thesis on April 30, 2014: Diblock copolymer micelle structure and dynamics near the order-disorder transition.
Christopher successfully defended his Ph.D. Thesis on April 24, 2014: Studies of Light Element X-Ray Fundamental Parameters Used in PIXE Analysis.
Professor Martin Williams was among the honored invitees at the "Recognition of the Contribution of Teaching Reception" presented by the Student Senate Caucus & the Undergraduate Academic Information Centre. The reception, held on Monday March 31st, recognized contributions made to the academic experience and celebrated the importance of teaching in post-secondary education. Professor Williams was nominated by Ms. Anita Acai, a Bachelor of Science student.

Congratulations to Dr. James LeBlanc who has been awarded an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship. James did his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in our physics department. His research was in theoretical condensed matter on topics in superconductivity and graphene. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden, Germany.
