Adam Pound to receive 2011 Governor General’s Gold Medal

Congratulations to Adam Pound who has been awarded the 2011 Governor General's Gold Medal. The Governor General's Gold Medal is awarded each year for outstanding academic achievement at the graduate level of study. This award will be presented at the Graduate Studies convocation ceremony on Tuesday, June 15th, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.

Michael Barriault wins best student poster prize at 2011 SHARCNET Research Day

Congratulations to Michael Barriault (an M.Sc. student with Luis Lehner), who won the prize for best student poster at the 2011 SHARCNET Research Day. The title of the poster was: 
Dynamical constraint enforcement in plasma environments.

2011 SHARCNET Research Day was held at Sheridan College on Friday May 19th.

UoG physics alumnus, Glenn Wagner, wins 2011 CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP

The 2011 CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics - Ontario will be awarded to Mr. Glenn Wagner, Centre Wellington DHS (Centre Wellington, ON), his skill at using differentiated teaching methods to significantly improve student performance. Glenn has established himself as a teacher that draws students into physics. A master at differentiated instruction, Glenn incorporates a broad range of teaching strategies such as peer instruction, interdependent group work, concept mapping, and problem-based learning methods in his classroom.

The 14th International Symposium on Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy and Related Topics, CGS 14, is the fourteenth symposium in a series that started in Studsvik, Sweden (1969) and continued in Petten, The Netherlands (1974); Brookhaven, USA (1978); Grenoble, France (1981); Knoxville, USA (1984); Leuven, Belgium (1987); Asilomar, USA (1990); Fribourg, Switzerland (1993); Budapest, Hungary (1996); Santa Fe, USA (1999); Prague, Czech Republic (2002), South Bend, USA (2005) and Cologne, Germany (2008).

Congratulations to Prof. Joanne O’Meara, winner of 2011 CAP Medal for Excellence

The 2011 CAP Medal for Excellence in Teaching Undergraduate Physics will be awarded to Joanne O'Meara, University of Guelph, for her outstanding and innovative work in the classroom, impressive range of engagement in physics education research, and her broad reaching impact beyond the walls of her own classes, from the primary school level on up to the development of a national university-level physics curriculum.

Prof. Martin Williams selected to give The Last Lecture

Congratulations to Martin Williams who was selected by the graduating class to give the “The Last Lecture”.  The Last Lecture features talks by a graduating student, a faculty member chosen by the graduating class, and a distinguished alumnus.

This event takes place Thursday April 7, 2011 at 5:45 p.m. in War Memorial Hall.
