Powers like this can be solved directly on most calculators by using the yx key.

(a) 4.000.360 = 1.65 (3 sig. fig)
(b) (7.10)log3.20 = 7.100.505 = 2.69 (3 sig. fig.)
(c) (log 2.40)log 0.930 = 0.380-0.0315 = 1.031 (3 sig. fig.)

If you don't have a yx key, they can be solved by taking logarithms:

(a) log (4.000.360) = 0.360 log 4.00 = 0.360X0.602 = 0.2167
antilog (0.2167) = 1.65

(b) (7.10)log3.20 = 7.100.505
log (7.100.505) = 0.505 log 7.10 = 0.505X0.851 = 0.4299
antilog (0.4299) = 2.69

(c) (log 2.40)log 0.930 = 0.380-0.0315
log (0.380-0.0315) = -0.0315 log 0.380 = -0.0315(-0.4202) = 0.01324
antilog (0.01324) = 1.03
