Abstract

String theory is one of the most hyped and seemingly esoteric areas of theoretical physics that has permeated the community for decades. Although its physical relevance is debatable, many prominent researchers have attempted to use it as a framework to answer some of the big open questions in fields ranging from quantum gravity to condensed matter physics. In this seminar, I will illustrate the main concepts of the theory, without any heavy use of mathematics, and attempt to motivate it as a reasonable perspective on our Universe.
