Abstract
With our world becoming more and more dependent on technology, the question of security is becoming increasingly important. But how do we ensure that our emails, credit card information, or browsing data is secure and protected? This talk will introduce the history of mathematical cryptography, explaining the idea of Public Key Exchanges, common encryption methods like RSA, and an explanation of 2017’s hottest buzzword: the Blockchain. It will focus on the mathematical background and algorithmic structures of these systems (don’t worry, the math is actually very simple) rather than the nitty gritty computer science questions about how to implement these concepts. The talk may even teach you how to become a Bitcoin Billionaire – just like the Winklevoss twins.
