Everyone who has dropped their phone dreads finding out if their screen has shattered, and subsequently wishes phones can have unbreakable glass. These materials are all governed by their underlying structure. X-ray diffraction has been in use for over a century illuminating the structure of crystals. But this doesn't work well for amorphous materials such as glass. This is where computational models can attempt to fill the void. Although there are many challenges, this talk will go over how these challenges are being tackled here at the University of Guelph.
The talk is from 3-4 pm (snacks at 2:30!). Make sure to follow the Graduate Seminar Series on Facebook.
