Congratulations to Carley Miki, the 2022 Ross Hallett Memorial Scholarship in Biophysics Winner!

Carley Miki obtained her Honours BSc in Nanoscience from the University of Guelph in 2012, with a Minor in Physics. In her honours project, Carley used rheology to measure the viscosity of water-based dispersions of phytoglycogen (PG) nanoparticles that are produced in the kernels of sweet corn. She observed a very large increase in the zero-shear viscosity as the PG concentration was increased. A graduate student built on her initial results, and this led to a 2018 Soft Matter paper on which Carley was a co-author.
