School's Out, Museum's In! This PD Day we have Orbax and Physics, University of Guelph here to celebrate STEM Week 2019. Prepare for physics phun for the whole family! Orbax brings the world famous physics road show to the Guelph Civic Museum for an afternoon of incredible demos!  Suitable for the whole family, a great opportunity to see an amazing display of physics demonstrations.

Speaker Dr. Scott VanBommel The application of physics fundamentals to planetary science problems has taken this Guelph physics graduate off the southern edge of Google maps in search of space rocks, to Mars as part of multiple rover missions, and nearly above the Karman line as a shortlisted astronaut with the Canadian Space Agency.

To kick off STEM Week 2019, the University of Guelph Nanoscience Club will take their College Royal award winning demo show to Brothers Brewing for a night of beer and nanoscience! Demonstrations include hydrophobic surfaces, acoustic levitation, quantum locking and superconducting levitation! Demos run throughout the course of the evening so sit don't miss your opportunity to witness these compelling displays in the relaxed and comfortable environment that Brothers Brewing Co. provides!

Dr. Li is currently the Head of Wholesale Risk Analytics with HSBC Canada. She has a wealth of experience in model risk management in the financial industry, working for companies including RBC, Scotiabank and the Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan. Dr. Li is a theoretical condensed matter physicist and a former Postdoctoral Fellow from this very department! Dr. Li successfully transitioned her physics career to a career in finance. Dr. Li has coached and mentored numerous quantitative professionals including former physicists throughout her career.
